These shoes are made for walking

Walking, walking, walking....

One of my favorite things that I did with the maniacs this year was walking around town. When they started kindergarten at the public school last year, I decided that we would walk every day that we could, to school. We live about a 1/2 mile away. There was some grumbling in the beginning but it gave way to acceptance and to expectation. Even when we had little friends visiting us, they would walk to and from school with us. We walked on drizzly days, we walked on snow days, we walked on hot days, we walked on windy days. There were only a handful of days that we did not walk.

It was fun, it was enlightening, it was crazy. Sometimes there were big stories to tell, sometimes there was sulking, sometimes there were giggles and skipping the whole way home.

We tried to continue the habit this past summer. We walked home from VBS, we walked to and from the library. We walked to the local farmer's market. Many days I threw us all out onto the sidewalk because there was no way we were going to stay off each others nerves if we stayed home. Those walks ended up being the best ones.

We admired people's yards, we made up stories along the way, we shared secrets, we swapped lollipops, we tried to keep Peelu occupied in the stroller. We sucked down gallons of water.

We were together.

Walking and talking.

May this year be just as connecting for us, as our feet continue to pound the pavement.
