Felting Rainbows & Butterflies
The felting was fast and furious for Fair this Summer!
It started with petting the luscious rainbow wool that I had bought ages ago from The Rainbow Room.
Peelu decided to do a rainbow (surprise, surprise) and she started the blue sky background by rubbing some blue and white together with the bubble wrap inside of a mailing envelope (are we cheap or what?)
Some crazy scrubbing ensued.
But we got some felt going.
Then the rainbow colors had to be chosen.
She laid them on first.
Added some clouds.
Then she poured hot, soapy water over the roving to try and set it in place.
More hot, soapy water.
Give it a good pat down, squishing through the water.
Break out the bubble wrap again and vigorously rub, all the while making sure everything stays in place.
Roll, roll, roll it up. We don't eat sushi so that is actually an old bamboo place mat we had to help roll it up and aid in friction.
Then unroll to check it out and see if everything is felting and sticking together.
Then back at it.......
Vigorous rubbing made the pictures extra blurry!
Then a rinse in cold water.
Let dry and then marvel at your beautifully colored felt rainbow!!
Then grab a butterfly shaped cookie cutter and start punching away with the needles.
Then punch some more and some more and some more and just keep going....it takes a while!
Eventually it resembles a butterfly. But who really cares when the wool is so scrumptious!!
Wife to a VERY understanding man (even if he does roll his eyes and duck back into his garage way too much); mother to three maniacs, crafter, professional volunteer, crazed maniac in her own right...yep, that about covers it for now.
It's about crafts, family, gardening, life....really whatever the heck I want to talk about. I am wordy, messy, opinionated, disorganized, lacking in focus, manic, craft obsessed...and pretty much this all spills out on the pages of this blog. You've been warned!
